What
is CONNECTED? In the early 1900’s, a
psychiatrist by the name of Dr. Alfred Adler developed a theory of psychology
based on a primary principle that all humans have a need to belong or feel
connected to others. Although the
theory of Adlerian psychology is very complex, everything ties back to this
primary principle. Adlerian
psychology has been used in a variety of settings such as psychiatric hospitals,
treatment centers, private practices, schools, and corporate businesses because
the concepts are easy to understand and implement in any setting that involves
people. After spending a decade and
a half working in prisons, treatment centers, hospitals, and schools, the
founder of CONNECTED, Dr. Jason Snow, noticed one inescapable fact … Dr. Adler
was right about human nature. Most
people’s problems stem from their inability to effectively connect to others.
Like Dr. Adler, Dr. Snow noticed that teaching and working with people to
help them get connected to others enabled them to realize their own innate
potential. Recent research in the area
of neuropsychology further supports the original work of Dr. Adler and the
direct clinical experiences of Dr. Snow. Specifically,
functional MRI scans demonstrate that when people feel rejected, disconnected,
or excluded that they register this perception in the same part of the brain as
when they experience physical harm or injury. Thus, this research shows us that
being connected to others is so necessary in each of our lives that it is
actually hardwired into our brains and registers as pain when we feel like we
have not achieved this vital goal. Everyone, at some point in
their lives, knows the importance of being connected even without the fancy MRI
studies or mental health professionals telling us.
If you look at studies regarding employee turn-over in companies, which
is very costly to businesses everywhere, you find that one of the major reasons
for leaving a job is not pay – it’s because the person did not feel
connected and/or appreciated. When
you examine research on suicide, you find that one of the main preventions for
suicide is to get the depressed person connected to others such as friends,
family, support system. Even when
you read books written by successful people or listen to interviews of people
who have achieved great things in their lives, you will continuously hear the
concept of being connected at the center of all their success. Thus, CONNECTED
was formed to help schools, hospitals, treatment centers, and businesses to tap
into this amazing energy of connectedness and realize the greater potential
known as synergy. Our logo of a
triangle made of primary colors represents the primary, yet fundamental, nature
of Dr. Adler’s notion that we all need to be CONNECTED.
Just like the pyramid, once we have this primary base, we can aspire to
any height and still be innately secure. This
core concept is captured in our company’s slogan … “When you are CONNECTED
– Anything is possible.” Contact Information
